Price of Wedding Photography in Hawaii
Here's a good article by the late photographer Monte Zucker on the price of wedding photography. Here in Hawaii, wedding photographers with varying levels of experience and talent, charge anywhere from $350 to over $5000 to shoot a wedding.
There is no easy way to find the right photographer in your price range other than by doing your homework. Check out websites, blogs and compare packages of local photographers. Contact your top two picks to find out what exactly you get with their package. If you're happy with the way the photographer interacts with you via email or phone, set up an interview and ask to see more of his or her work. Some photographers will come to the interview with a contract in hand - don't feel pressured to sign anything at the interview. Ask to take the contract home to review. If everything looks great, you can always send it in the following day with the deposit.
If you go with a low budget photographer (starting price around $350 in Hawaii), understand that these people usually do a volume business. They may also work as contracted hires for other high-volume wedding businesses who offer wedding packages that include an officiant, a limo, and a photographer. Newbie photographers also price themselves low to build their portfolio. You might be disappointed if you expect high quality, fine art photography with a budget photographer.
Moderately priced Hawaii wedding photography (starting price is around $900 to $2500) is where there is a huge range in talent, creativity and experience. This is also where there might be a little room for negotiation on photography packages.
Hawaii wedding photographers who command a starting price of $3000 or $4000 are established professionals or studios who often bundle in flush-mount albums and may not give you the high-resolution digital files.
